We have entered a period where the majority does not seem to have a voice, yet the voice of the few dominate. We are in an Economic Crisis caused by the few yet the Majority is the most negatively impacted. We are at a time where our resources bailed out the few from their self-inflicted crisis yet we still suffer from decisions that are sponsored by the few. To add insult to injury, one of the few that were bailed out Bank of America; has decided now that they are on solid footing again, to charge their customers for using debit cards.

In response to such insult and the call of the 99%, Miami residents, along with organizations such as Occupy Miami, Miami Workers Center, Florida New Majority, 1Miami, SEIU, UNITE/HERE, and Awake Miami will march through Overtown to the Downtown Bank of America where residents will close accounts protesting the banks foreclosure practices and new bank fees.

The call of the 99% is to reclaim the U.S. economy from corporations and big banks. Miami residents and community organizations will march from one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city to a downtown branch of Bank of America in order to close their accounts and call out the bank on new fees, and its foreclosure practices.

“Wealth in this country is concentrated in the hands of a few in this country, while the rest of us are nickel and dimed at every turn. Bank of America has a lot homes in foreclosure, during a crisis that has cost the Black community the largest loss of wealth ever,” said Hashim Benford an organizer of the event.

This Miami protest is a part of a national movement of people pulling their money out of large banks and moving their money to smaller credit unions, as anti-corporate and anti-bank sentiments are on the rise in the U.S. in the wake of the financial crisis, and the foreclosure crisis.

On Tuesday, November 1, the March Begins at 10am, Stops at Occupy Miami 10:50am, Arrives at Bank of America at 11:15 am. It starts at Greater Bethel AME Church 245 NW 8th Street, Overtown, and ends at Bank of America, 150 West Flagler Street.
