The Miami Workers Center (MWC) is a strategy and action center whose purpose is to build the power and self-determination of South Florida’s most oppressed communities. We are a multi-racial and multi-issues organization, lead by women of color and low-income families. We employ an intersectional approach linking gender, race, and socio-economic status understanding the needs of women, girls and femmes must be the basis for a social justice agenda.

GOTV Canvass Lead

Location: Miami, FL

Compensation: Part-time, seasonal position $17/hour

Help turn out Black women voters throughout South Florida this important election year! The Miami Workers Center is hiring motivated individuals for a paid canvass program operation in Miami-Dade County for the 2018 election cycle. Canvassers will be responsible for contacting thousands of voters through door knocking collecting commitment pledges to vote. The Canvass Lead will be responsible for ensuring canvasser are meeting their benchmarks, canvassing when necessary, and inputting data. Our goal is to build knowledge of the political process while encouraging folks to vote in an important midterm election. 

This is a temporary position. Canvass Lead will work under the immediate supervision of the Gender Justice Coordinator and Executive Director. 

Hours: Part-Time, 25 Hours Per Week (will require a flexible schedule, including weekends & evenings)

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Persuade Black and brown residents to fill out pledge forms and commit them to vote as their civic duty
  • Ensure canvassers are meeting their daily/weekly canvass and pledge card goals
  • Work above mentioned schedule
  • Fill out accurate daily reports and input data from canvassers
  • Work well in a team setting
  • Help coordinate phonebanks and canvasses with MWC staff

Qualifications and experience: 

  • Strong interpersonal skills and outgoing personality
  • Experience using the VAN, Excel, and other pertinent data entry tools
  • Be goal-oriented, punctual, organized and with a positive attitude
  • Have access to a personal cell phone for job duration
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Believe in the mission and vision of the Miami Workers Center
